Tony Porter, DDS
Originally from Clemmons, Dr. Tony Porter graduated from West Forsyth High School and earned his Eagle Scout Award from Troop 752. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from North Carolina State University. While he was earning his degree, he also worked as an orthodontic lab technician.
Dr. Porter graduated from UNC School of Dentistry in 1990. Following graduation, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Dr. Porter and his family returned to Winston-Salem in 1994, and he began practicing at the current location – 3031 Lyndhurst Avenue.
Because Dr. Porter knows it is important to stay on top of developments in the dental field, he is a member of several professional associations. He has served as an officer in the Forsyth County Dental Society, the Second District Dental Society and the North Carolina Dental Society. In all three, he became President of the organization. He is also former chair of the North Carolina Dental Society Board of Trustees. He continues to serve the North Carolina Dental Society serving on the NC Missions of Mercy Advisory Committee and the Political Action Committee. He is currently a delegate to the American Dental Association’s House of Delegates.
Dr. Porter has served on the UNC Dental Alumni Association, and has been an examiner for the NC State Board of Dental Examiners and the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies (CITA). Dr. Porter has been inducted into the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, as well as the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Even though Dr. Porter is immersed in Carolina Blue, he still bleeds Wolfpack Red! Dr. Porter is a lifetime member of the NC State Alumni Association and an avid member of the Wolfpack Club. His son, Alex, is a graduate of Appalachian State University and his daughter, Ashley, graduated from NC State and UNC Dental School. Dr. Porter and his wife, Angie, can be seen at most Wolfpack basketball games since they have season tickets and lifetime rights!
Dr. Porter and his family are active in the community, attending church at Center Grove Baptist, and working with the Scouts in Troop 752.
