Nitrous Oxide

If you avoid visits to the dentist because of overwhelming anxiety, it may come as no surprise to you that millions of people feel exactly the same way when faced with dental treatment.

There are a variety of reasons why patients experience dental fear. You may feel that you’re not in control during treatment, or your fears may be the result of a bad dental experience in your childhood. Whatever the cause of your anxiety, nitrous oxide – laughing gas – can help you overcome your fear and regain a beautiful, healthy smile.

Efficient, Compassionate Care

We are committed to providing a warm and friendly environment at Lyndhurst Dental Associates, and our professional team will go out of their way to treat you with kindness and respect for your concerns. Our experience and state-of-the-art technology combine to make every visit with us comfortable and efficient.

If you experience anxiety, we know that your primary concern is minimizing the amount of time you spend in the dental chair. Sedation dentistry and the skill of our team allow us to coordinate various treatments so you can have multiple procedures performed comfortably in just one visit. Most of our sedation patients report that their dental treatment was virtually painless, and many don’t even remember what happened during their procedure!

Comfortable Treatment with Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide sedation is not a recent innovation. Although techniques have obviously changed, it has been safely used in dentistry for over 100 years. In fact, it is so safe that it is also used in hospitals and outpatient settings.

The purpose of sedation is to bring about a state of relaxation. With nitrous oxide, you will be very relaxed but still able to see, hear and respond to what’s happening around you. But you are much less likely to experience any anxiety as a result of the activity.

Nitrous oxide sedation is one of the mildest forms of sedation, and you will simply feel some drowsiness and a sense of well-being. However, once inhalation is discontinued, the effects also end, usually within moments.
