Crowns & Bridges

Damaged teeth can impact the way you look and feel about yourself. It’s hard not to feel self-conscious when you feel that your smile isn’t healthy or at its best.

At Lyndhurst Dental Associates, our goal is to provide you with exceptional dental care that gives you the healthiest smile possible. We’ll work with you to find the best solution to restore your damaged teeth and protect your oral health. Our high-quality restorations – like crowns and bridges – are customized to look completely natural and last for many years.

Versatile Dental Crowns

A dental crown fits over the entire tooth to restore its shape and size and provide support. We start by preparing your natural tooth so that the crown will fit perfectly. Next, we take impressions that are used to create your final crown. You'll wear a temporary crown for about two weeks, then return to our office so we can place the crown securely over your tooth.

The most common uses for dental crowns are strengthening a tooth that has been compromised and protecting it from further damage. Our durable dental crowns perform the same functions as a natural tooth and restore your ability to chew comfortably and speak normally.

There are several situations where a dental crown is the most effective treatment:

  • Protecting a fractured tooth that we can’t repair with composite bonding
  • Strengthening a tooth after root canal treatment
  • Reinforcing a tooth weakened by teeth grinding
  • Restoring a dental implant

You may have heard crowns referred to as "caps" because they surround your tooth to strengthen and protect it from further damage. Their design also makes them a great choice for correcting cosmetic flaws, like concealing a severely stained tooth that doesn’t respond to whitening.

Fixed Bridges for a Whole, Healthy Smile

Missing teeth look unattractive, undermine your self-confidence, and make chewing and speaking a problem. However, a dental bridge restores function, improves your appearance, and is also good for your oral health.

When you have a missing tooth, neighboring teeth will start to move into the empty space. The movement can eventually cause your teeth to become misaligned and can eventually lead to problems like teeth grinding and TMJ (temporomandibular joint dysfunction).

Dental bridges fill the space left by a missing tooth. An artificial tooth is attached to two dental crowns. The crowns are then attached to the the teeth on either side of the empty space to hold it securely in place. Our doctors have been creating beautiful, functional bridges for decades.

We often use dental bridges in the following ways:

  • Filling the space left by a missing tooth
  • Restoring your chewing surface to full function
  • Providing a permanent alternative to a removable partial denture
  • Preventing surrounding teeth from shifting out of place

Dental bridges are attached securely to adjacent teeth and are quite stable. Depending on your needs, we may recommend adding a dental implant for increased stability.
